No advertisments, no banners, no spam; just like it was in 1991...

Parodius Rulebook

1. No advertisements (Click here!)

All forms of commercial or personal advertising are considered volatile.

This includes, but is not limited to: banners, Email spam, WWW spam, UseNET spam, and IRC spam.

Do not use your account for personal financial gain (eg. profit) of any sort. For example, do not put up webpages in an attempt to sell 50 copies of Shenmue, Super Famicom backup units, Barbie dolls, old Garbage Pail Kid sets, your stamp collection, dirty socks, et cetera...

Financial donations may be permitted, but must be cleared by the Parodius Technical Support staff before such may take place. All donations received may only be used for Parodius-oriented issues, such as paying a monthly bill (for bandwidth usage, et cetera). All forms of profit will be considered volatile. Parodius is a non-profit organisation; any profit made from it's Users or it's Staff can directly affect our tax-exempt status; please be respectful of this.

Accounts which are found to be performing any of the aforementioned methods of violation will be given one (1) Email-based warning, and 48-hours to address the issue at hand.

Any complaints received during the 48-hour modification window regarding the advertisement(s) in question will be ignored by our Staff; we reserve the right to provide the User(s) in question sufficient time to address the issue at hand. If no response is received within the 48-hour grace period, the account will be suspended indefinitely until contact is made; for web-oriented content, this means the site will be no longer be accessable.

Repetitive violations of this rule will result in account termination. The repetition threshhold will be assigned individually based upon the severity of the situation; assignment will be done by the Parodius Technical Support staff.

No exceptions to this rule will be made.

2. No pornography (no shirt, no shoes, no service)

All forms of pornography are considered volatile.

Complaints received via any communication method (Email, phone, IRC, et cetera) regarding pornographic material residing directly on our server will be addressed immediately.

Pornographic content which does not reside on our server (such as a user-based Redirect to content hosted by another provider) is not considered our responsibility. Parodius Networking can only be held liable for data which physically resides on our server(s) hard disks, and/or data which comes across our network/Ethernet.

Parodius Networking does not support nor tolerate child pornography in any shape or form. Incidents pertaining to this subject will be reported IMMEDIATELY to local and federal authorities to induce prosecution.

Repetitive violations of this rule will result in immediate account termination. The threshhold will be assigned individually based upon the severity of the situation; assignment will be done by the Parodius Technical Support staff.

No exceptions to this rule will be made.

3. No pirated software (winners don't use warez)

All forms of pirated software are considered volatile.

This includes, but is not limited to, commercial software (i.e. "warez"), commercial mask ROM/EPROM/EEPROM dumps (i.e. "roms"), and any other software deemed "inappropriate" for public or private use by the Parodius Technical Support staff.

Parodius Networking is not responsible for data downloaded (obtained) from external sites; in English, you are free to download pirated software from sites or individuals which do not involve trespassing or other illegal means (i.e. "hacking"), but you are NOT allowed to distribute this software to any other individual or individuals online from any server(s) hosted by Parodius Networking. Such examples of distribution may use, but are not limited to, IRC, FTP, Email, UseNET, or WWW facilities.

Pirated software found to be being distributed via our server(s) will result in immediate account termination without warning.

In the case of termination, depending upon the severity of the situation, we reserve the right to contact local, federal, or commercial authorities and/or organisations (eg. RIAA, IDSA, FBI, et cetera) and inform them of the activities which were performed. None of us personally believe in "narqing," but we don't make federal laws: we just uphold them.

No exceptions to this rule will be made.

4. No abusive behaviour ("He started it!")

All forms of abusive behaviour performed directly from your account, or "relayed" to/from your account, are considered volatile.

Diversity of thought and freedom of expression are upheld strongly by Parodius Networking at a whole. Ethnic, gender, and racial discrimination is severely frowned upon, but is upheld under the First Amendment. However, repetitious scenarios involving such discrimination can or will will in account suspension or termination.

Examples of "relayed" harassment are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Harassing Emails which involve the use of our SMTP server. This implies data sent from, to, or data that "involves" our server. An example of the phrase "involves" would be you using your ISPs SMTP server to send a harassing Email with the From address set to youraccount@parodius.com or a Parodius hosted domain. Even though our SMTP server was not directly involved in the transmission of the Email, Parodius becomes involved solely because your From or Reply-To field is set to something related to Parodius.
  • Harassment performed over IRC via our server (e.g. shell accounts).
  • Harassment performed over UseNET groups via our server.

In English: Do not involve Parodius Networking in anything related to harassment, even if done outside of our network. Involving us in such issues can or will result in account termination.

No exceptions to this rule will be made.

5. Sub-hosting ("I wanna be a web provider too!")

All forms of sub-hosting ("sub-letting," "re-hosting," "subdomaining") are forbidden, unless otherwise agreed upon between the User and the Parodius Technical Support staff.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Giving out your webspace to others in attempt to host them yourself, under your own wing.
  • Giving out FTP space to others in attempt to host them yourself.
  • Sharing your account authentication information (passwords, et cetera) with members outside of your own Staff member list.

The Parodius Technical Support staff has no problem with large websites sharing a login amongst Staff members. However, this is quite different from sharing a login with 5 or 10 other people who "need webspace of their own."

We do not approve of this, nor do we appreciate it. We consider it rude, and quite shady. It should be made very clear that we host you and your website. We do not host you so that you can host your friends.

No exceptions to this rule will be made.

6. Our rights (WYSIWYG)

The Parodius Technical Support staff reserves the right to change or modify these rules herein at any time, for any circumstance. You, the User, agree with both the current revision of this rulebook as well as all future revisions, regardless of content.

Our Staff also reserves the right to suspend or terminate service for reasons not listed above, on the grounds that the incident(s) in question may result in circumstances beyond our control in the future.

Other reasons for suspension will be addressed on a per-User basis, and dealt with accordingly. They are debatable, in the case that you feel unjustified in your removal.
