What in the world is this? In the wake of the 20th century, the activity of NES development is becoming more and more popular all around the world. This movement of NES enthusiasts has been growing since the advent of the emulator. Unfortunately, it seems that for historical reasons, we are stuck with an obstacle in our way: the iNES specification. This artifact of storage created years ago by Marat Fayzullin for the storage of NES ROM images has been slowly going down into a state of innacuracy and has fallen prey to a new NES emulation phenomenon: THE JAPS! This group of people has defaced the .NES format beyond recognition as well as inventing countless mapper "numbers" to provide security to their cherished gibberish FC ROMs. This and the fact that Marat Fayzullin seems dead has sparked a new movement of revolt to create a new standard in the wonderful world of NES ROM image storage and emulation. The new format, called "UNIF" (Universal NES Interchange Format) is rapidly gaining support from the majority of NES developers. This summary information should help you understand UNIF on a deeper level. For more information, contact Tennessee Carmel-Veilleux. |
